Pacific Arts and Culture Symposium


Dear colleagues

please find attached some information for our up-coming one-day symposium Pacific Arts Collections: The Culture of Collecting Then and Now at Burrinja Cultural Centre, Upwey, VIC. The symposium brings together experts which will discuss aspects of how the nature of collecting and the engagement with Indigenous collections has changed over time and examine national and global trends in managing Indigenous collections.

Saturday, 7 September 2013
Burrinja Theatre, 11 am – 4 pm (Registration at 10.30 am)
$65 Full Price, $35 Student/Jarmbi Members

The exhibition is followed by the official opening of the exhibitionSecret Ingiets – Mysterious Stone Carvings and Ceremonial Objects from the Tolai, PNG. The exhibition will be officially opened by His Excellency Mr Charles W Lepani, High Commissioner for PNG at 4.30 pm, followed by the screening of Savage Memory (documentary, USA, 2012) at 6pm.
