GJP Candidate for the Reserve Seat in Central Ward (which includes Seaside, Independence Park, the Joint Court area and the central city area) is Tusavaka Nishai. Currently pursuing a degree in International Politics, Tusavaka has also completed the “Women in politics” program of the Centre for Democratic Institutions (CDI) at the Australia National University (ANU) in Canberra, Australia, and has a Diploma in Management from the University of the South Pacific (USP). From 1990 to 2001 (10 years) she worked for Air Vanuatu in the positions of Senior Finance Officer and Revenue Officer. From 2001 to 2011 (11 years) she worked for the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF) in the positions of Senior Business Marketing Officer, Senior Employer Services Officer, Inspector, and Contributions Officer. Since last year she has been working voluntarily in community development in both Seaside and with her home island community of Futuna, with a special focus on assisting women to gain livelihoods. Tusavaka’s leadership roles in the community have included being Secretary of the Seaside Tongoa Council of Chiefs, an Executive Member of the Seaside Tongoa Football Club (both male and female teams), Coordinator of the Seaside Tongoa Youth Easter Camp and she has served two terms as an Executive Member of the Seaside Independence Celebrations. In the field of sports development, Tusavaka is an Executive Member of both the Vanuatu Netball Association and VASANOC’s Woman in Sports committee. In the church, she has taught in the Sunday School at Seaside Tongoa since 2004 and is a Presbyterian Women Mother’s Union (PWMU) member of both Seaside Tongoa Church and Nangire Presbyterian Church.
